Day 18 Preview

Canada scored an injury time winner against South Africa to become the first side into the last 16.

Three games this evening and the Last 32 matches will be coming quick and fast this week. 

We did well in the first round of group games but struggled in the the next two sets of matches, resulting in a 13.24 pts loss.

However, Messi (6) currently leads the Golden Boot race and is no odds on. At 25/1, it puts us in a strong position to recoup those losses and then some. We also expect to see an uptick in performance in the knock-outs as we have a clear read on team strengths, style and tactics.

Argentina have the cleanest route to the semi final with expected opponents Cape Verde > Egypt > Colombia

Question marks over both Brazil and England, leaves Mexico with a great opportunity to get to at least the QF by leveraging home / host status.

Spain have drifted a lot since the start of the tournament but in reality Portugal are the only real side preventing them getting to the QFs and beyond. 

Germany, Netherlands and France all sit in the one bracket and although France are clearly the strongest, cases can be made for all three and for now, we’ll watch how that side of the draw plays out.
